Starting from January 31, 2025, all imports entering the United Kingdom must be accompanied by a Safety & Security Declaration, also referred to as an Entry Summary Declaration (ENS). This development introduces a dedicated ENS process for UK-bound shipments, distinct from the existing ENS procedures for goods imported into the European Union.
Important Updates to Be Aware Of:
- Separate ENS Filings for UK Shipments: The updated regulations call for a specific ENS submission for goods entering the UK, independent of the ENS filings required for EU imports.
- Requirement for Distinct EORI Numbers: To comply with UK Customs regulations, importers must secure a unique EORI number specifically assigned for UK imports. Businesses importing into both the UK and EU will need to maintain two distinct EORI numbers: one for each region.
- Essential Documentation for Hauliers: To facilitate transportation via ferries and the LeShuttle (Eurotunnel) freight services, hauliers must submit the following details:
- Names and addresses of consignors and consignees (including EORI numbers where applicable)
- The carrier’s UK EORI number (required for driver-accompanied freight)
- Comprehensive goods descriptions, reference numbers, and vehicle identifiers
- Details of the border entry point, estimated arrival time, total package count, and weight
Increased Enforcement at UK Borders UK border authorities are expected to rigorously enforce these new requirements. Hauliers failing to submit accurate declarations may face travel restrictions and potential fines.
